THE PATRIOT ACT
Tune: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

The Patriot Act is disaster
It brought us unspeakable harm,
It trampled our privacy ri-ghts
And sounded a dreadful alarm!

CHORUS:
Bring back, bring back,
Oh bring back my freedom to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back my freedoms to me.

My country for you I am singing
My country for you I will cry
My country what's going to happen
My country, please don't be my spy!

CHORUS:
Bring back, bring back

You frustrate my ri-ghts to dissent
You censor the books that I read,
You ja-il our immigrant students
Is that how you're going to lead?

CHORUS:
Bring back, bring back

You're waging a war on your people
Denying them their basic rights,
You're stifling expression of free press,
And all this because of your might

CHORUS:
Bring back, bring back

LOST MY FREEDOMS
(Tune: Clementine)

Lost my freedoms, lost my freedoms,
Lost the whole darn Bill of Rights!
Ashcroft thinks it's patriotic
To lock us up good and tight!

If an immigrant or dissenter
Better watch out what you say!
They will call you Un-American;
Don't forget Guantanamo Bay.

If not with 'em, you're against 'em,
Better not protest or think!
If you don't do what they tell you
You could end up in the clink.

No attorney, no good reason,
They'll just hold you in the jail.
Not a letter, not a phone call,
No one there to post your bail.

If you think this cannot happen,
You're not looking at the signs.
What they call the Land of Freedom
Could become like Palestine.

Time to speak out, time to sing out!
Time to sue the government
We will stand our ground together,
Sisters, brothers, don't relent!

To John Ashcroft and his minions
Here's the message that we bring
We will not stay safe and silent,
We shout, "Let our freedoms ring!"
